Au Bar occupies a prominent corner position at 101 Shandwick Place, one of the city centre's most principal streets leading traffic directly into the city centre. This West End trading location is arguably one of the busiest and well known areas of the city centre being at the heart of the financial district and a stone's throw from the shopping thoroughfare of Princes Street. This area has clearly resulted in the business enjoying a mix of trade from tourists, locals and business people eating and drinking at Au Bar. It is envisaged that this area is about to boom further with the bar being on one of the main routes for tram transport and the neighbouring suburb of Haymarket receiving a multi million pound upgrade with further office space and luxury residential apartments being built. Au Bar is an extremely well established business. Previously under a different tenancy, Iona took over in 2008. The current owners of the lease have owned the business since 2000 and have built up an excellent reputation for good food and drink and also having a good selection of real ales available. Around 70% of trade is derived from wet sales with the remaining 30% from food. The source of trade ranges from a local and repeat clientele to tourists and many office workers/professionals in the area. The majority of lunchtime trade during the week tends to come from the neighbouring financial/commercial businesses. The business trades successfully in this current format however new proprietors may wish to increase the level of food sales with further promotions and advertising etc. The excellent facilities available do not restrict new owners from doing this. The business is open from 11am - 12am Monday - Thursday, 11am - 1am Friday and Saturday and from 12pm - 12am on a Sunday. It should be noted the business is licenced to open until 1am. The business is run by 2 proprietors with the assistance of 10 members of staff (2 part time & 8 full time).
