It’s been a long time coming, but the former Wild Yarrow site on South Bridge has finally found a new lease of life – and it’s sizzling. National flame-grilled chicken chain Pepe’s Piri-Piri has officially opened its 224th UK store right in the heart of Edinburgh, and it’s already turning heads.
Set inside the striking corner unit near the junction with Chambers Street, this new Pepe’s is one of the biggest in the country, seating large groups in a sleek, modern dining space that swaps the cosy café feel of the past for something far more fiery.
A space made for squads
“Step into one of the biggest Pepe’s in the country – right in the heart of Edinburgh City Centre!” the brand teased on launch day. “Whether you’re planning a massive party, a family feast, or a legendary get-together, this location is built for big vibes and even bigger flavours.”
The restaurant is spread across multiple levels, with stylish booths, open-plan seating and plenty of room for groups. The look is urban but fresh – black and yellow accents, industrial lights, and glowing feature walls that make the food feel even more Instagram-worthy.
“It’s been buzzing since we opened,” says multi-franchise owner Kash Ali. “We’ve had locals, students, tourists – you name it. The response has been unreal. People are loving the space, and of course, the heat!”
Flame-grilled favourites
The menu is classic Pepe’s: marinated, flame-grilled chicken available in a choice of spice levels, from Mild to Extra Hot, along with loaded rice boxes, grilled wraps, piri-piri wings, and the ever-popular chicken burgers.
Everything is cooked to order, and with the brand’s signature piri-piri sauces at the heart of every dish, the food packs serious flavour – without breaking the bank.
A landmark store for the brand
Speaking about the opening, Aaron Mills, Business Development Manager at Iona Pub Partnership (which supports the site), said:
“It’s fantastic to see Pepe’s launch such a flagship location in Edinburgh. The South Bridge store is not only a brilliant reuse of a long-vacant site, but also a bold statement about where the brand is headed. We’re proud to support the team and can’t wait to see what’s next.”
With its size, footfall and central location, the South Bridge branch marks a major step forward in Pepe’s Scottish presence – and gives Edinburgh’s food scene a spicy new option for both casual dining and big-group celebrations.
So, whether you’re hunting for a post-lecture lunch, feeding a flat full of pals, or just after some chicken with serious attitude, Pepe’s might be your new go-to on the Bridge.
